Background

The Sonora bus station in Mexico is a crucial transit point. They needed to update their air distribution system to improve occupant comfort in various areas, including offices, waiting rooms, and commercial spaces. With a constant flow of passengers and staff, the need for a comfortable and healthy environment became paramount. Temperature management and air quality were critical challenges that required innovative solutions.

Solution

To address these challenges, they selected a fabric duct system from FabricAir. The FabricAir team custom engineered a fabric duct system specifically designed to meet the needs of the occupied areas of the busy Sonora bus station.

Certified Fabrics

  • Combi 60 Fabric: A permeable fabric that does not generate condensation, certified by Oeko-Tex 100, and comes with a 10-year warranty.

Strong Suspension

  • Type 08 All in One: The type 08 suspension facilitates fast and easy installation and maintenance. The shape retention system integrated with the existing infrastructure and significantly reduced installation time.

Airflow Models

The custom engineered system included two different airflow models to direct air precisely where it was needed in the space.

  • Oriflow: Used to direct air to specific areas, ensuring precise and efficient distribution.
  • Fabflow: This model uses the fabric’s permeability to drive air through thermodynamic forces, avoiding drafts in occupied areas and increasing comfort levels.

Results

The implementation of FabricAir’s fabric duct system resulted in significant improvements in occupant comfort at the bus station.

  • Homogeneous Temperature: Occupied areas maintained a constant and comfortable temperature between 22 to 24 degrees Celsius (~71 – 75 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Reduction of Condensation: Thanks to the permeable properties of the fabric ducts, all types of condensation were eliminated, contributing to a hygienic environment.
  • Increased Comfort: Thanks to the precise airflow design, uncomfortable drafts were avoided in occupied areas, providing a more comfortable environment for passengers and staff.

The solution implemented by FabricAir not only improved comfort and indoor air quality but also offered a money saving solution with low energy consumption and low maintenance, aligning with efficiency and wellness standards.
