Background

The Mitsubishi automotive plant in Mexicali faced a common regional challenge: high temperatures that complicated the work environment and affected performance. Mitsubishi needed an air system capable of delivering consistent coolness and comfort for its team, beyond what their current supplier’s ducts could provide. To address this, ATA Refrigeraciones, Mitsubishi’s contractor, reached out to FabricAir to implement an innovative and effective solution that would not only stabilize the temperature but also create a comfortable workspace.

Solution

FabricAir designed a custom solution incorporating Combi 60 fabric, chosen for its durability, resilience, and Oeko-Tex 100 certification, ensuring a safe and quality product. To achieve the desired cooling effect and temperature control, surface and directional airflow models were combined:

  • OriFlow: This model was essential in creating the fresh, pleasant airflow Mitsubishi sought, providing immediate relief for employees without disrupting productivity.
  • FabFlow: While OriFlow generated cool air streams, FabFlow ensured smooth and uniform air distribution, maintaining a stable temperature throughout the plant and eliminating issues like condensation and dust accumulation.

The ducts were installed at a height of 7 meters (about 23 feet) using a steel cable suspension system that met the facility’s requirements for non-corrosive materials. This setup ensures consistent comfort without adding unnecessary maintenance tasks.

Results

The system exceeded expectations: the plant’s temperature stabilized at 24°C/75°F, transforming the work environment with consistent, comfortable cooling. Thanks to the custom engineered airflow, employees now enjoy a refreshing, consistent breeze, while the temperature remains ideal and even throughout. In addition to providing these benefits, the fabric ducts are washable, durable, and come with a ten-year warranty, securing Mitsubishi’s investment as a long-term, efficient, and reliable solution.
