Gross Market has recently opened a new supermarket in Kayseri, Türkiye. The store is set to draw large crowds of shoppers and stock a diverse range of products. To keep up with that traffic, the project needed an HVAC system that could deliver even air distribution and indoor air quality across a large, open sales floor.

The store’s layout mixed open refrigerated displays, high-traffic entrance doors, and wide-open spaces, each with different air distribution demands. A fabric duct system gave the project the flexibility that a rigid layout could not offer.

The challenge

For Gross Market Kayseri, the main need was to provide even air distribution across the entire area and mantain high indoor air quality for customers and employees. Open refrigerated displays, busy entrance doors, and large open spaces made this a challenging air distribution puzzle that not all HVAC systems can solve with equal efficiency. This is why fabric ducting was the best choice for the sales floor.

Keeping the environment condensation-free mattered almost as much. Along with the market’s other food-safety measures, reduced condensation of FabricAir’s ducts help keep produce and other products fresh and well preserved.

The solution

FabricAir delivered 11,100 m³/h of air across the store through using 36 meters of textile ducting. The system combined two airflow models: MicroFlow for gentle air distribution in areas where comfort is a priority, and SonicFlow for the more demanding areas.

  • MicroFlow releases air through thousands of tiny laser-cut perforations spread across a large portion of the duct’s surface. This creates soft, low-velocity air movement that mixes evenly through the space without a noticeable draft and ensures comfort.
  • SonicFlow is engineered to send air out through rows of larger laser-cut openings. These can direct air distribution at specific zones, such as the entrance doors or the refrigerated aisles.

The team installed the ducts with FabricAir’s Type 8 All-in-One suspension system. This setup allows fast installation and a clean, integrated look. Customization also played an important role in aestheics.

Gross Market chose red ducts to match its brand identity, with the market’s logo printed directly onto the fabric. This is one advantage of a fabric duct system: it adapts to whatever color, print, or shape a brand needs. Rather than treating ductwork as something to hide, the system became part of the store’s visual identity. FabricAir can adjust a duct’s color and print to fit the design vision for the architecture of a space. This turns a functional air distribution system into a design feature.

Why was FabricAir selected for this project?

Metal duct systems often push air out at high velocity in occupied spaces. In a supermarket this size, that can create uncomfortable drafts near the aisles and checkout areas.

The FabricAir system solved this problem. It delivered strong IAQ performance at a lower cost and within a short timeline. Two factors shortened the delivery time. The ducts are installed quickly because the fabric is lightweight, and the rail suspension system needs minimal on-site installation. Together, these advantages let the project move from design to installation faster than a comparable metal duct system would allow.

Results

The FabricAir system supported indoor air quality across the market, helping to maintain better conditions for products on the shelves and supporting customer and employee comfort.

Anyone who has walked past a supermarket’s open fridges knows the sudden drop in temperature. Uneven air distribution causes exactly that feeling. The system supported stable IAQ throughout Gross Market so that customers and employees both benefited from the more even, draft-free environment.

Supporting Gross Market in their expansion

Gross Market brings fresh produce, wide aisles, and a bright shopping experience to Kayseri. Behind that welcoming atmosphere sits a fabric duct system, engineered to keep air moving evenly from entrance to aisle.

Open refrigerated displays, busy entrance doors, and wide open spaces each pull air in different directions. A fabric duct system had the flexibility to bring them all into balance, ensuring indoor air quality that benefits both people and products.
