Background

Danfoss needed an air distribution duct for their production facility in Nordborg, Denmark to transport large amounts of air with minimal pressure drop to the adjourning production hall. They preferred a fabric system to conventional metal ducting due to the lower weight, quicker installation and energy savings potential, thus approached FabricAir for a solution.

Solution

We delivered a custom solution consisting of a square 2200x2200mm duct with two chambers separated by a non-permeable membrane. It is 55m long, contains seven internal membranes and runs two different temperatures and pressures. The suspension is a customized Type 8 H-rail system with rectangular aluminum hoops and straps with sliders.

Results

The end result is a duct that looks good with and without air, and it was 30-40% cheaper than a metal equivalent.

“We wanted to use a fabric solution to optimize our energy usage through lower pressure drop. FabricAir has delivered a good solution for our air transportation purposes. In fact, we’ve ordered a slightly smaller duct for the other end of the same production facility,” says Manager of GS-RBT & Senior Consultant HVAC, Danfoss Global Service.
