Fabric Duct System Installed at Renovated Pool
Fabric Duct System Installed at Renovated Pool
The recently renovated Zirmunai Pool in Vilnius opened its doors as part of a broader transformation into a modern community sports complex. The facility now features a 25-meter, four-lane swimming pool, gym, changing areas, showers, and auxiliary spaces, offering new opportunities for both formal and informal education as well as local community activities.
Addressing corrosion concerns in indoor pool environments
As part of a comprehensive renovation, project leaders identified the need to upgrade the indoor swimming pool’s ventilation system to improve air quality, occupant comfort, and energy efficiency. Indoor swimming pools present significant challenges due to high humidity and chlorine exposure, which create a corrosive environment that can quickly degrade traditional ductwork. Recognizing these concerns, planners prioritized durable, corrosion-resistant solutions to ensure long-term performance and reliability.
Customized FabricAir Ducting System
To meet these demands, a tailored fabric duct system was designed and installed. The ducts were produced in Combi 30 White fabric, chosen for its durability and resistance to corrosion in harsh pool environments. For support, two different types of suspension were used: Type 2 stainless steel and Type 5 for harsh environments. Both are designed to withstand corrosion and ensure stability in demanding conditions.
The ventilation system was engineered to deliver a total airflow of 13,700 m³/h, with SonicFlow and PerfoFlow models ensuring a steady and uniform distribution of fresh air throughout the pool hall. This creates a comfortable indoor climate without uncomfortable drafts, while keeping humidity under control and maintaining air quality.
Results: Reliable, Comfortable, and Low-Maintenance
The newly installed system provides consistent fresh airflow, reducing odors and enhancing the comfort of swimmers, staff, and spectators alike. By combining a corrosion-resistant textile material with robust suspension types, maintenance needs are minimized, and the life of the installation is extended.
By choosing fabric-based ventilation over traditional sheet metal ducts, the project avoided common pitfalls in pool environments and achieved a modern, sustainable air distribution system that supports both the functionality and aesthetics of the new Zirmunai Pool.
