The Gazanfer Bilge Sports Hall in Istanbul has undergone a significant environmental upgrade, thanks to an innovative fabric ducting solution designed to enhance indoor air quality without overloading the building’s structure. Previously lacking a proper ventilation system, the facility struggled with uncomfortable conditions that affected both athlete performance and spectator experience.

Challenging Conditions Demand Innovative Solutions

As part of a major renovation, engineers needed to introduce effective ventilation without placing heavy loads on the existing roof. Traditional metal ducts were not an option due to weight and structural constraints, prompting the search for a lighter, more flexible alternative.

A Lightweight Answer to Structural Constraints

A custom fabric duct system using Combi 30 fabric provided the solution. Because these ducts are significantly lighter than conventional materials, they were installed swiftly and safely. This minimized disruption and preserved the building’s integrity. Delivering 40,000 m³ of air per hour through a 228-meter-long duct system, the setup ensured even, reliable airflow across the entire facility.

Consistent Airflow and Energy Efficiency

MicroFlow and SonicFlow air flow models allowed for precise airflow control, achieving stable temperatures and humidity levels throughout the sports hall. The result was improved comfort for both athletes and spectators, as well as higher energy efficiency due to low-pressure operation. Additionally, the fabric ducts’ unobtrusive appearance blended seamlessly with the venue’s design.

A Blueprint for Modern Sports Facilities

The transformation at Gazanfer Bilge Sports Hall demonstrates how carefully engineered fabric ducting solutions can solve structural challenges while improving indoor air quality and overall efficiency. This project serves as a blueprint for HVAC contractors and engineers designing systems in modern sports facilities—proving that innovative, lightweight alternatives can enhance performance, safety, and comfort all at once.
