The Team Sports Hall, a sporting facility of the National Sport Centre of Latvia – recently installed a FabricAir duct system. The goal was to ensure ideal indoor air quality for athletes and spectators with a design that complemented the modern aesthetic of the space. The project team selected FabricAir for its ability to deliver custom-engineered, uniform airflow and sleek black fabric ducts that coordinate with the structure of the building.

Maintaining Thermal Comfort in a High-Activity Environment

Sleek black fabric duct system improves indoor air quality in the National Sport Centre of Latvia

Sports and entertainment venues often face unique HVAC challenges, especially in large spaces where many people gather for events or when athletes are in constant motion. Uneven airflow, drafts, and poor air quality can impact both performance and spectator experience. The fabric duct system was designed specifically to eliminate those concerns by delivering uniform air distribution throughout the hall.

A combination of air flow models was utilized to meet the facility’s needs. MicroFlow delivers low-velocity, surface airflow with no condensation risk, ideal for an environment with elevated humidity. SonicFlow provides precise air movement, ensuring that both players and spectators are comfortable regardless of activity level or location in the hall.

Design Integration and Functionality

Visually, the black fabric ducts, complement the interior color palette, contributing to the clean, cohesive aesthetic of the space. The ducts are flame-retardant, washable, and backed by a five-year warranty, offering durability and easy maintenance alongside visual appeal.

The installation, supported by FabricAir’s Latvian distributor K-Tehnoloģijas SIA, utilizes the Type 8 suspension and the All-In-One shape retention system to ensure a seamless appearance. Even when the HVAC system is off, the ducts maintain their open shape, keeping a consistent appearance at all times. The Rapid Slider system made the installation process fast and efficient that provides a seamless look between the duct and rail.

A Tailored Solution for a Modern Sports Facility

The result is a venue that offers enhanced air quality and comfort while maintaining architectural integrity. The impact-resistant nature of the fabric ducts also makes them ideal for high-activity environments, where occasional contact with the system is inevitable.

Marrying precision airflow engineering with aesthetics and functionality, the project at the Team Sports Hall, a sporting facility of the National Sport Centre of Latvia shows how textile-based air distribution can elevate the standard for indoor sports environments.
