FabricAir recently completed a highly specialized project at Novo Nordisk’s new plant in Tianjin, China, demonstrating the adaptability and precision of fabric duct systems in a demanding environment. The project involved equipping a high-raised (also known as high-bay) automatic warehouse with cutting-edge air dispersion technology to meet stringent temperature control requirements for high-value pharmaceutical products.

A Challenging Application

The warehouse, measuring 132m x 15m x 23.5m, posed unique challenges due to its scale and operational demands. Storing temperature-sensitive products required maintaining a temperature difference within ±1°C across the entire space. Adding to the complexity, strict installation regulations and high-elevation requirements demanded precise coordination and innovative engineering.

Large fabric ducts installed in the ceiling of the Novo Nordisk Warehouse in China maintain specific temperature requirements

Tailored Design for Optimal Performance

To address these challenges, FabricAir engineered a custom solution using its Combi 80 fabric ducts. These permeable, flame-retardant, antimicrobial polyester ducts were selected for their durability and hygienic properties, making them ideal for preventing condensation and microbial growth in temperature-sensitive environments.

Key system features included:

  • Duct Design: Eight 29m-long, Ø2400mm D-shaped ducts, seamlessly integrated with the hard ceiling to save space.
  • Flow Model: The SonicFlow directional flow model, custom-engineered for precision air distribution through laser-cut perforations, eliminated the need for balancing and ensured consistent airflow.
  • Suspension System: The Type 11A suspension system, crafted from anodized aluminum, provided a clean, uniform aesthetic while accommodating the low-ceiling constraints.

Exceptional Results

The installation was completed in just 12 days, despite the project’s complexity and strict safety regulations. FabricAir worked closely with Novo Nordisk, providing solutions not only for the air dispersion system but also for site challenges caused by other equipment. The results exceeded expectations: the temperature throughout the warehouse remains consistently within the ±1°C tolerance, ensuring the safety and quality of Novo Nordisk’s high-value products.
