Maintaining a controlled environment in food production facilities is critical to ensuring product quality, especially in candy manufacturing, where temperature fluctuations can impact both production efficiency and product integrity. Sunrise Candy Company, located in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, recently tackled this challenge by installing a fabric-based HVAC system from FabricAir to achieve precise climate control throughout its production plant.

Meeting the Temperature Challenge

In a candy factory, keeping a consistent temperature is vital to prevent product defects and ensure a smooth manufacturing process. Sunrise Candy faced the challenge of maintaining a constant 25°C temperature across its production floor, which includes ovens, processing machines, and workers.

Fabric ducts installed in the Sunrise Candy Factory in Mexico

The company needed an air distribution system that could deliver uniform airflow without causing uncomfortable drafts or disrupting the delicate manufacturing process.

The Fabric Duct Solution

FabricAir engineered a custom solution for the candy factory, including 2,321 meters of round fabric duct made from the permeable fabric. This material was selected for its numerous advantages, including its Oeko-Tex 100 certification, which guarantees it’s free of harmful substances, making it ideal for food production environments. The custom engineered system ensures smooth, controlled airflow across the facility, preventing hot or cold spots and ensuring optimal temperature regulation.

The Combi 80 fabric is also flame-retardant and has bactericidal properties, contributing to a safer and more hygienic workspace. Additionally, the ducts are washable and durable ensuring long-term reliability, even in the challenging conditions of candy production.

Custom Engineered, Precision Airflow

To optimize cooling and air distribution in the plant, FabricAir incorporated two flow models into the system:

OriFlow | A medium-speed, directional flow model designed to distribute air to specific areas, such as near ovens or production lines.

FabFlow | This flow model disperses air gently through the permeable fabric surface, providing uniform airflow without creating drafts that could cause discomfort or affect candy production.

The combination of these flow models ensured that every part of the plant received the precise amount of airflow needed, contributing to a stable and consistent temperature across the entire facility.

Efficient Installation and Operation

The fabric ducts were installed at a height of 7 to 8 meters using FabricAir’s Type 8 suspension system, which ensures stable placement without interfering with plant operations. This design not only optimizes air distribution but also facilitates easy maintenance. The flexibility of fabric ducts makes them faster to install and more cost-effective compared to traditional metal ductwork, minimizing downtime for the factory during installation and future maintenance.

A Cooler, Safer, and More Efficient Workspace

With the new fabric duct system, Sunrise Candy Company has easily maintained the required 25°C temperature, ensuring product quality and improving the comfort of its workforce. The even air distribution has eliminated drafts and temperature variations, creating a healthier, more productive working environment.

The fabric ducts also meet strict safety and hygiene standards, which are critical in food manufacturing. The system’s easy maintenance and durable properties ensure that Sunrise Candy can maintain optimal air quality and temperature for many years to come.

By choosing a fabric-based HVAC system, Sunrise Candy Company has enhanced both production efficiency and employee comfort, while also meeting stringent food safety requirements. The installation of FabricAir’s custom-engineered fabric ducts proves that advanced air distribution solutions can provide both operational and environmental benefits, making it a smart choice for food manufacturing facilities.
