Indoor Comfort: HVAC Retrofit for a Prestigious College Auditorium
The challenge of maintaining a comfortable and efficient indoor climate in a prestigious college auditorium led ReNu Technologies, FabricAir’s representative in South India, to collaborate with FabricAir on a strategic retrofit upgrade. The management sought to enhance cooling capacity without modifying the existing interior design, ensuring a seamless integration with the space’s aesthetics.
Upgrading from Split AC to an AHU-Fabric Ducting System
Previously, the auditorium relied on split air conditioning units, which presented several challenges, including uneven airflow, and noise that disrupted the space’s acoustics and occupant comfort. Recognizing the limitations of the existing system, the decision was made to upgrade to an AHU-based system paired with FabricAir ducting to provide more effective cooling and uniform air distribution.
A Seamless Retrofit Solution
FabricAir’s lightweight fabric ducting system was selected for its ability to be suspended below the false ceiling using adjustable hangers and mounted along the perimeter walls—ensuring the installation did not interfere with the existing interiors. The new system features:
- SonicFlow air dispersion model, designed for precise and consistent airflow
- Type 1 suspension system, providing a secure and efficient installation
- All-in-One shape retention, ensuring ducts maintain their form even when airflow is off
- Combi 20 White fabric, a permeable and flame-retardant material with a 5-year warranty
- Total airflow of 15,000 CMH, meeting the cooling demands of the space efficiently

The retrofit has transformed the auditorium’s indoor environment, providing:
